Sean Siggins (1922-2007)

Monday the 12th November was one of the saddest
days in the history of the Sarsfields club, when our club
president and longest serving member, Sean Siggins, passed away
after a brief illness.
His death came just 2 weeks after the most memorable weekend in
the clubs long history, when Nicky Brennan was guest of honour
at the celebration of our centenary - an event Sean had done so
much to ensure was the resounding success it turned out to be.
In fact, it should have been one of his proudest moments as the
GAA President was to make a special presentation to him on
behalf of the club - a watch engraved with the words 'Taoiseach
na Sáirséalaigh' (Chief of the Sarsfields) and a more fitting
description would be hard to define. In the end, the watch was
accepted on his behalf by his brother, Phil, but little did we
know that Sean would never have the chance to wear it in his
native Wexford town.
To Eamonn, Damien, Emmett, Brian, Donal and his
beloved Christine, his passing will be most felt and the club
extends its condolences to them for their loss. We thank them
for sharing their father with us and assure them that he will
never be forgotton as long as there is a Sarsfields club.
We have lost a great footballer, an astute
mentor, an awesome speaker and a loyal clubman, but most of all
we have lost a true friend. We hope he will look down on the
club and continue to give us the guidance we will invariably
need as we strive to make this club stronger in the years ahead.
It would be a fitting tribute to the work done
by the man we will always know as 'The Chief'.
