Seniors open league campaign with great win

Adamstown 2-7, Sarsfields 3-8:

Big Noel Walsh was the Sarsfields super-sub in Adamstown on Saturday last when they beat the home side to collect the first set of points on offer in Premier A, Group 2, of the All-County Football League.

The county Minor hurler was sprung from the bench and scored a brace of goals to make sure of success. Sarsfields fielded a very young team, with their Jim Byrne Cup-winning captain of 2006, Dylan Sparrow, scoring the other goal. There was also a competitive Senior debut for talented defender Shane Barnes whose omission from the county Minor squad has amazed his fellow club members.

The game marked the return to competitive action of former county Senior Darren Browne after a long injury lay-off.

Sarsfields: James Roice; David Gannon, Michael Hanrahan, Brendan Mulligan; Dylan Sparrow (1-0), Colin Bent (0-1), Shane Barnes; David Clancy, Andrew Moore; Emmet Keeling, Kevin Gore (0-3), Cian Hore (0-2); Barry Goff (0-1), Ciarán O'Leary (0-1), Paul Lambert. Subs. - Darren Browne for Gannon, Lee Walker for Lambert, Noel Walsh (2-0) for Sparrow, John Harrington for Clancy.
