The adult league season kicked off last weekend but
unfortunately, neither our Senior or Junior teams managed to
secure a win in their opening games.
The Senior team were first up with a home game against
Adamstown and with 10 minutes gone in the game led by 1-3 to
0-2 with Paul Lambert grabbing the goal. At this stage we
were playing some lovely football but inexplicably, we were
to score only 1-2 for the remainder of the game. Having
taken our foot off the pedal, Adamstown stormed back into
the game and our concession of two soft goals meant we
trailed by 4 points at half time,1-4 to 2-5. An early second
half strike by Noel Walsh lifted hopes of a comeback but
this never materialised and we only managed one further
point in the game. Adamstown finished much stronger to close
out the scoring, 2-9 to 2-5.
The Junior team had a very tough opener as they met St.
Mary's Rosslare in Pairc Charman on Monday afternoon. Early
season rustiness was evident from the start but as the game
wore on, we were well in contention with the only
disappointment being our final ball, which lacked the
penetration that our lead up play deserved. Trailing by 2
points at half-time, 0-5 to 1-4, and facing into a stiff
breeze we were always going to be under pressure in the
second half, but all credit to the lads who dug in deep and
would have been much closer at the finish were it not for
some errant passing and shooting. Despite going down by 2-10
to 0-8, the lads can be well satisfied with their
performance on the day.
