Taghmon/Camross 1-11, Sarsfields 1-11

There was more hair gel used in the dressing-room before the match than after it when the Seniors got the year under way with a challenge game away to Taghmon-Camross on Saturday last. The reason? The television cameras were there as our opponents are taking part in the new 'Celebrity Bainisteóir' series which will be screened on RTE in March.

Ivan Yates is their manager and his advisor is our own Billy Dodd who seems to have drawn the short straw as some of the remaining seven managers of various teams around the country include the model Glenda Gilson and former Rose of Tralee Aoibheann Ní Shúilleabháin.
Apparently Billy was devastated when the television production team mentioned this in passing, but Edel was delighted!

The game ended in a 1-11 each draw, and it was encouraging to see young guns Tadhg Carley and Liam Howlin make their debuts at adult level. The undoubted highlight was John Harrington¹s spectacular point, but we must stress that stories of it being kicked from 60 yards out are wildly inaccurate. In fact, Big Harry was in the adjoining field with his back to the posts and with two annoying little corner-backs hanging out of each arm when he unleashed his exocet!!

The undoubted lowlight was Noel Walsh's goal attempt from 6 yards out which not only missed the target but managed to break a window in Crocky Clancy's house 3 miles down the road!! We're not sure if Teresa got that shot on camera, but we'd bet that if she did, it is now consigned to the cutting room floor!!

Sarsfields: James Roice; Enda Whelan, Tadgh Carley, Liam Howlin; Fran Cleary, Shane Barnes, David Gannon; Ciaran O'Leary, Lee Walker; Jason Murphy, Paul Lambert, Dylan Sparrow; Philly Cullen, Noel Walsh, John Harrington.

Referee: Justin Heffernan (Blackwater).
