Senior team who defeated HWH-Bunclody in the WFC Senior Football Championship quarter-final

Seniors clinch semi-final place

At a sun-drenched Bellefield on Sunday last, our Senior team qualified for their first semi-final in 3 years, where they will meet Kilanerin or Castletown, following their hard fought victory over HWH-Bunclody on a 2-9 to 1-7 scoreline..

This was a performance full of guts and determination that was all the more exceptional considering that we had to play with 14 men for 35 minutes in energy sapping heat following the dismissal of Jason Murphy just before half-time. 'Chicken' O'Leary with 2 goals and Philly Cullen with 6 points, 5 from play, where the main scorers on the day but towering performances by Enda Whelan, Kieran Kelly, Niall Sheil and Emmet Keeling ensured that any Bunclody fightback was doomed to failure.

We now face our biggest challange against either the current County champions or their North Wexford neighbours but there is every reason to believe that this team can once again rise to the occasion and take us to our first County final in 11 years

Team: James Roice; Brendan Mulligan, Paul Harrington, Enda Whelan; David Gannon, Mikey Hanrahan, Niall Shiel; John Harrington, Kieran Kelly; Donnacha Doyle, Barry Goff, Emmet Keeling; Jason Murphy, Ciaran O'Leary, Philly Cullen. Subs. - Colm Callery for Doyle, Franny Byrne for Gannon
