In a pulsating game in which both sides could have emerged victorious,
the final score of 2-10 a piece meant that Sarsfields and Taghmon
would have to repeat their heroics in a replayed county semi-final.
Leading by a single point at half-time our lads got off to a great
start in the second half by adding 1-1 to their tally within the
first 3 minutes and at that stage must have fancied their chances
of going on to secure victory. However, credit must go to this
Taghmon/Camross side who knuckled down and responded in such a
brave manner that they hauled themselves back into contention
by being only 2 points down with a few minutes to go.
Then
disaster struck the Sarsfields when a shot for a point rebounded
of the Sarsfields upright and fell to a Taghmon player who bundled
the ball to the net to give them the lead with time almost up.
However this Sarsfields team showed the strenght and determination
that won them the U14 title 2 years ago by getting the equalising
point with almost the last kick of the game setting up an eagerly
anticipated replay to be played later this month.
Each and every player gave their all in this game and despite
the intensity of the occasion, the game was played in the most
sporting of manner. Best on the night for our lads were Tom Nolan,
Adam Doyle, Lee Walker and Darren Bergin and, with the return
of Jack Ennis and Mark Browne who were unavailable, hopes are
high that we can win the replay and go on to face Shelmaliers
in the County Final.
