Minors go out of League
A very depleted Minor team went down by 4 points to St.
Annes at a very blustery Rathangan on Sunday morning.
Playing with a gale force wind in the first half, the
lads went in at half time leading 1-6 to 0-3 but should
have been leading by much more. Some wayward shooting
and brilliant goalkeeping by the St. Annes netminder kept
the Sarsfields score down.
On the resumption, St. Annes had much more of the possession
but weren't adding much to their tally and the efforts
of Neill Howlin in goal did much to keep the Rathangan
boys at bay. The turning point in the game came with 10
minutes to go when we had a wonderful goal chance from
Willie Lambert saved by the Annes goalie. From the resulting
clearance the ball was worked down to the St. Annes full
forward who was fouled in the big rectangle and a penalty
was given which was duly put away. After that there was
no way back for our lads despite heroic performances from
Neill Howlin, Fran Cleary and Shane Barnes.
