Senior team who defeated Starlights in the first round of the WFC Senior Football Championship

Seniors stun Starlights

Despite having won all five games during the league campaign, our Senior team went into their first round championship game against Starlights knowing that only a victory would show that we were serious contenders for this years Senior title and, owing in no small part to the prolific scoring of 'keeper turned full-foward 'Chicken' O'Leary, our title aspirations are alive and kicking following a 2-7 to 0-8 victory over the champions of 2002.

Although being without the services of a number of players due to injury and unavailability the team still put in a superb performance to overcome the Enniscorthy men and laid down a marker to all other teams for the year ahead. The scoring exploits of 'Chicken' may grab the headlines but this was a total team performance in which Barry Goff, Donnacha Doyle and John Harrington excelled. Every player can be proud of his contribution and can hopefully look forward to an extended run in this years championship.

Team: James Roice; Brendan Mulligan; Paul Harrington; Mikey Hanrahan; David Gannon(0-1); Colin Bent; Niall Shiel; John Harrington; Colm Callery; Donnacha Doyle(0-1), Barry Goff, Emmet Keeling; James Bridges, Ciaran O'Leary(2-3 0-3f), Philly Cullen(0-1). Subs. - Enda Whelan for P.Harrington, Kevin Gore for Bridges.
